As a trainee at the Berlin-based design agency Praegewerk Berlin, I had the opportunity to work on a unique and visually rich project: a travel guide showcasing the most spectacular bathing spots in Ticino, Switzerland. Commissioned by Salamander Verlag, the book was more than just a collection of locations—it was an invitation to adventure, guiding readers to turquoise pools, dramatic rock formations, hidden waterfalls, and serene beaches.
My role spanned nearly every aspect of the book’s design, from developing a cohesive visual system to crafting a workflow for highly detailed custom maps. The challenge was to create a guide that was both beautiful and highly functional, helping readers navigate mountainous terrain with clarity and ease.

With Praegewerk-Berlin, I helped develop a clean yet expressive layout that included:
An overview page to set the tone for each chapter.
A photo gallery-style index to inspire exploration.
Text and image layouts with an intuitive flow.
A carefully designed icon font and a consistent color palette, inspired by the natural elements of the region—deep blues of water, earthy tones of stone, golden sunlight, and lush vegetation.
Graphic elements that subtly reflected the movement of water, reinforcing the book’s theme.
Through trial and iteration, I established a process that balanced precision and readability, ultimately delivering maps that seamlessly integrated with the book’s aesthetic.
This was a completely new task for me, and I was entrusted with solving it from scratch. I worked closely with the author to obtain accurate GPS coordinates for each location, then developed a custom workflow using OpenStreetMap. The goal was to strip away unnecessary details, refining the maps to show only the essential landmarks and paths, ensuring they were clear and easy to read.
